Overview
The beaches along the Olympic Peninsula are remarkably varied — ranging from rugged headlands crowned with sea stacks and scattered with driftwood to wide, wind-swept expanses of sand, and cobble-strewn shorelines. Each beach has its own character, with distinct tide pools teeming with life and sculpted rock formations shaping the intertidal zone. Over the course of the workshop, we will visit and revisit select locations, experiencing them under different light, tides, and atmospheric conditions.
Olympic is also home to extensive and lush rain forests, and while our workshop will focus primarily on the beaches, we may also make an excursion into these verdant forests if conditions call for it.
We each have over a decade of experience photographing Olympic, and we are excited to share this jewel of the Pacific Northwest with you.
Itinerary
The coast is dynamic by nature and our itinerary remains intentionally flexible as a result, allowing us to respond to shifting weather patterns, light, and tide lines as they evolve. That said, a rough outline of our days might be as follows:
Friday, March 19: Meet midday for introductions and a classroom session, followed by an evening field session.
Saturday, March 20: Morning field session, break for breakfast/lunch/rest, and evening field session.
Sunday, March 21: Morning field session, break for breakfast, midday classroom/review session, and evening field session.
Monday, March 22: Morning field session, break for breakfast/lunch/rest, and evening field session.
Tuesday, March 23: Morning field session, break for breakfast and checkout, and closing midday classroom/review session.
