Here are my favorite photographs of 2024, delivered right on time in April of 2025! I really enjoy curation and drilling down to the essence of my work, much like I do with each individual composition. That must be why yearly recaps are something I’ve also enjoyed: they allow me to do more of the DRILLING I already do in each collection (including the continual work of refining my all-time favorites).
Twelve has always seemed a good number to me, though I think it may have started as superficially as “Top 12 of 2012.” Considering I typically make about 50 portfolio photographs in a year, it works. Ansel also famously said that “twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop.” Who am I to deny the master’s wisdom?
The photos are presented below roughly in the order they were made. What I find interesting about this year is that 11 of 12 are from Yosemite, and fully half of the twelve are from a two week period in spring. This highlights the streakiness of my creativity. It comes in waves, and sometimes I’m in a position to harness it! Then, back to hibernation until it is to be awakened once more. One might say that it… ebbs and flows?
